The ‘Harbour Cities’ series is devoted to West European harbours and industrial cities that were heavily bombarded during the Second World War. In addition to London (Great Britain) and Rotterdam (The Netherlands), the series also includes a city in the Ruhr region of Germany, namely Duisberg. This city, which was frequently bombed by the allies, was at the time a centre of the German weapons industry and, with its extensive railway network and important inland harbours, also a centre of the German war infrastructure.

Elsewhere on this website are two pictures from the ‘Harbour Cities’ series: nr. 1 (London) and nr. 2 (Rotterdam). The picture shown here, ‘Duisburg 3 (Dark grey)’ comes from a separate series about this city.
