In 1990, a couple of years after I made a series of seismogram-like drawings (see detail above), I went for the first time to see the Italian Dolomites. I had the impression to walk through an enlarged and threedimensional version of my drawings.

The rugged mountains with their Wild West landscapes and striking shades of colour strongly appealed to this inhabitant of the Dutch lowlands.

Every summer during the first half of the nineties I explored parts of this large mountain area, making drawings and occasionally taking pictures.

Even thereafter the subject had my attention on quite some occasions. This time not outside amidst the mountains, but in my studio, using the previously made drawings and pictures.
